FAQs

Student and parent embrace

Is the Parent and Guest NOMA Nation Orientation cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

No. Parent and Guest NOMA Nation Orientation is not cancelled. It will be reformatted to begin when your student's Welcome Week begins on August 16th, 2023.

Is there a cost for the Parent and Guest NOMA Nation Orientation?

Yes, the cost is $55 per person.

How do I register for it?

On April 15, a link will go live on our Parent & Guest Orientation Fall 2023 homepage that will allow you to register for the Parent and Guest NOMA Nation Orientation.

What are the Parent and Guest Orientation days and what is the schedule?

Parent and Guest Orientation will begin at 9:30am on Wednesday, August 16 and will include programming until 5PM. While we are still working on the day's agenda, we know it will be full of information about the SSU resources that are here for your students as they navigate their academic journey. More to come in May 2023 about the agenda for Parent and Guest Orientation.

Can a parent, guardian, or mentor complete Noma Nation Orientation in place of their student?

No. It is important that students learn first-hand about academic requirements as well as meet new students, staff and faculty before they arrive for the start of the semester. We do offer a Parent and Guest Noma Nation Orientation for those who would like to learn about SSU and what their student's first year will entail. For more information, please visit our Parent & Guest Orientation page.

What can students do before Noma Nation Orientation, and what information can we send ahead of time?

The easiest way to keep track of a student's tasks throughout the summer is to assist your student in following their "To Do" list. All requirements are listed on their MySSU page. They are also going to want to watch their email, and texts as we communicate across various platforms.

Who can my student call if we have other questions?

The friendly and knowledgeable Orientation staff is ready to answer your questions! Call (707) 664-4464 or email us at orientation@sonoma.edu. We are available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During our peak times (April-August) we receive many phone calls and voicemails. We recommend emailing us first! If you do decide to call please leave one voicemail, as we try to get back to you within 48 hours and multiple messages cause delays.
