What topics are covered at First-Year NOMA Nation Orientation?

An orientation leader walking by with their group

On August 15th, students who are moving into campus housing will begin by checking in with Residential Education and Campus Housing (REACH) at the Green Music Center (GMC).  You will have time to unload and begin setting up your space.  If you are not living in campus housing your first year, you will check in later on the same day.

Wednesday, August 16th, Week of Welcome will begin with a welcome to the university from the President and his cabinet, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Office of Orientation and Family Programs. Week of Welcome will continue through August 19th.  Throughout the week new Seawolves will be placed in a Noma Nation Orientation group, along with other new students and an Orientation Team Leader. Through these groups you will make new connections, learn more about SSU and start getting yourself acclimated to your new home away from home!

During the day you will attend various sessions, check out all the nooks and crannies of campus, learn more about the academic expectations and all of the student services our campus has to offer you. Throughout the week, you will learn the tools and skills you will need to make sure you will have a successful start to your SSU career!

We know it is important for you to find your people, and to find/create a niche for yourself. We also know this can be scary for some. We want you to know that you will not have to do that alone. We are here with, and for, you! There are so many student leaders in Orientation, the Res Halls and the classrooms, that will help you. Throughout this week you will also learn about the co-curricular activities and events we have to offer and start finding ways to engage in various clubs and organizations at SSU (we have over 120+ orgs to choose from). Each night various departments and offices will host events designed to help you connect, and to begin to feel the Spirit, Community and Traditions of SSU! We are so excited to meet you and see the impact you will make on our campus!
