FAQs

Student and parent embrace

Is the Parent and Guest NOMA Nation Orientation cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

No. Parent and Guest NOMA Nation Orientation is not cancelled. It will be reformatted to begin when your student's Welcome Week begins on August 17th, 2024.

Is there a cost for the Parent and Guest NOMA Nation Orientation?

Yes, because we add additional technology to our system exclusively for guests, there is a cost of $55 per person. Registration will be required and will need to be added to your student's reservation and pay for all at the end of Noma Nation Orientation reservations.

How do I register for it?

You simply add yourself to your student's reservation! Again, add up to two names to the reservation so that you only pay $55/person.

What are the Parent and Guest Orientation days and what is the schedule?

Parent and Guest Orientation will be held on the day that your Seawolf does their Advising and Registration during June or July 2024. The day for parents will begin at 10am and go through about 4pm. While we are still working on the day's agenda, we know it will be full of information about the SSU resources that are here for your students as they navigate their academic journey. More to come in May 2024 about the agenda for Parent and Guest Orientation.

Can a parent, guardian, or mentor complete Noma Nation Orientation in place of their student?

No. It is important that students learn first-hand about academic requirements as well as meet new students, staff and faculty before they arrive for the start of the semester. We do offer a Parent and Guest Noma Nation Orientation for those who would like to learn about SSU and what their student's first year will entail. For more information, please visit our Parent & Guest Orientation page.

What can students do before Noma Nation Orientation, and what information can we send ahead of time?

The easiest way to keep track of a student's tasks throughout the summer is to assist your student in following their "To Do" list. All requirements are listed on their MySSU page. They are also going to want to watch their email, and texts as we communicate across various platforms.

Who can my student call if we have other questions?

The friendly and knowledgeable Orientation staff is ready to answer your questions! Call (707) 664-4464 or email us at orientation@sonoma.edu. We are available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During our peak times (April-August) we receive many phone calls and voicemails. We recommend emailing us first! If you do decide to call please leave one voicemail, as we try to get back to you within 48 hours and multiple messages cause delays.
